Students Offering Support
Students Offering Support is a nationally registered Canadian charity with over 20 university partners throughout North America. As a company working alongside Florida International University, they supply the essential planning and development of service projects for college students eager to assist across the globe. Through the efforts of both FIU and SOS, 9 students visited Pavones, Costa Rica from August 5-20, 2016 to help the development of a local elementary school.
Dionne was one of the participants with the SOS service trip. For two weeks, the volunteer group was in charge of cementing and constructing a durable, handicap accessible sidewalk, as well as installing indoor and outdoor walls for an impending kitchenette that will serve the local community's youth. Lastly, the group was assigned to create a mural for the children at the neighborhood elementary school, including a message promoting diversity, love, and respect across the world. With long and laborious hours of work, the group was proud and honored to be a positive influence for the betterment of Pavones. Dionne and her SOS team were greatly influenced by the generosity and welcomes portrayed by the people of Costa Rica. Below are pictures documenting the service trip taken by the SOS Participants.
