Question: What are your post-graduate plans to act as a global citizen in your personal, academic, and/or professional life? After graduation, I hope to stay involved with the Audubon Ambassador Program and lend any financial and accounting skills that I have obtained through school and working to the cause. Although it is a program that I am just starting to get involved with, I do believe in the cause and in the importance of bringing awareness about our natural gems for the betterment of the South Florida community.
I will also try my best to stay consistently engaged and connected to different areas of the world by traveling and learning about the historic importance of each specific place I visit. Without the root behind every place you encounter, it is hard to warrant any significant meaning. Lastly, I know that being globally aware will impact my professional life profoundly. I wish to start working in International Tax, and that is not a field where you can be unaware of your global surroundings. Being aware of predominant issues and different cultures will be a great advantage in the short and long run of my career.

Question: Do you feel more globally engaged? Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of visiting other countries twice. I had never been on a plane until the summer of 2016. I decided to go on a volunteer trip with my best friend to Pavones, Costa Rica. After that, my perspective on the value of traveling changed entirely. Everyone older and wiser tells me to "travel while you’re young". You don't know how much truth that statement holds until you experience it. Being able to jet off and plunge into the mystic of another country is an underrated luxury. Upon returning from Costa Rica, I attempted to do a study abroad to Hong Kong for the spring semester of 2017. However, because my remaining courses were upper division, they had to be completed at my home institute. I stopped planning to go to Hong Kong around the end of 2016. Eventually, I found myself going to Italy in 2017 for a summer course, and I wouldn't call that an unfair trade in the slightest. Engulfing myself in the culture, mannerisms, and etiquette are skills I still implement in my daily lifestyle in the US. I never prioritized getting to be culturally well-rounded before. However, both those experiences were extremely influential. I continue to be globally active and aware, and am planning my next big excursion to China in the Summer of 2018.
Question: Discuss changes in your global awareness? During these last 4 rigorous years, I have come to truly appreciate the work I’ve fulfilled as an accounting major. However, being a part of the College of Business primarily allows me to focus on very little outside of the normal course requirements for my degree. Therefore, the amount of exposure to other areas through my school curriculum is very limited. I am truly thankful that I took the initiative in becoming a GL Scholar. It provided the opportunity to increase my awareness and understanding of worldwide topics and concerns. These thought-provoking issues are some I can utilize in both my personal and professional life, especially if I begin working for an international accounting firm in the future.
Question: What are some changes in your global perspective? Global learning implies exactly what the title says; learning about topics, issues, and current events on a global scale. My time enrolled in my global learning courses and attending events coordinated with international spokespersons broadened my understanding and influencing my perspective on issues and ideas, as well as introducing new topics and concerns that had never crossed my mind.
